| Peach Arch Design/Build Project
Border Crossing at Blaine, WA
Malcolm Drilling constructed the shafts for the Northbound
I-5 Peace Arch Border Crossing project in Blaine, WA
in 2008 utilizing oscillator equipment. 12EA 2.2M diameter
shafts were constructed by advancing temporary oscillator
casing with a 2.5M oscillator attached to a Liebherr
883 dig crane excavating the shafts to a depth of 170’.
MDCI also hoisted and placed the long resteel cages
as single units that had been coupled horizontally on
the ground prior to hoisting. As the shaft concrete
was pumped, a 12’ long permanent slip-in casing was
placed inside of the oscillator casing to facilitate
placement of the concrete in the column transition zone
(by the General Contractor).
MDCI also constructed 11EA 1.2M diameter abutment
shafts on the Peace Arch project with a Bauer BG-40
drill rig hard coupled to a 2M oscillator. These shafts
were advanced to a depth of 130’ with concrete placed
to the surface elevation since these shafts were used
for the bridge abutments.
