Assistant Project Manager – Slurry Wall

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Slurry Wall

Location: Hayward, CA

Project Description:

Malcolm drilling is subcontracted to install two slurry wall shafts for the construction of a new water tunnel beneath the Fraser River. The two shafts will be located at either end of the tunnel. The smaller North Shaft is located at the north end of the tunnel in the City of New Westminster, and the larger South Shaft is located at the south end of the tunnel in the City of Surrey. The tunnel will be constructed via tunnel boring machine beneath the river, and will be launched from the South Shaft and retrieved from the North Shaft. Malcolm’s work will only include the construction of the slurry walls used to support the North and South Shaft excavations which is expected to be completed over the course of approximately 1 year.

Responsibilities:

  • Project estimating and project management of civil projects with all types of deep foundations, retention systems, ground improvement and dewatering scope
  • Perform site visits to evaluate site conditions
  • Study drawings, specification and geotechnical reports
  • Request and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Prepare take-offs, cost estimates, bid proposals and budgets
  • Negotiate construction contracts (with help from our legal team)
  • Prepare project submittals including construction means and methods, design calculation (design-build), specialty equipment and required materials
  • Manage field quality and control cost
  • Understand and help implementing required safety measurements
  • Prepare project billings and close out project paperwork
  • Attend company wide training

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s’ degree in civil engineering or construction management
  • 5+ years of related experience in civil or geotechnical engineering
  • Construction estimating: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Have good mathematical and analytical capabilities
  • Basic understanding of our construction methods
  • Ability to travel to various job sites within the district
  • Meet deadlines for multiple tasks
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Driver’s license required
