Growing across the country
We have some great news to share ... Earlier this week, we had our ground breaking for a new Malcolm Facility in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. We’re excited to get to work and continue expanding our footprint across the country.

In the bustling seaport city of Seattle, Wash., work is steadily advancing on the Ship Canal Water Quality Project, which aims to prevent an average of 75 million gallons of polluted stormwater and sewage from entering Seattle’s waterways each year.
We are working on the 210-ft-deep, 87-ft-wide drop shaft in Ballard, where the TBM will be launched in 2021. To support the excavation, we are installing an 87-ft-dia diaphragm wall to a depth of 210 ft to cut off the groundwater. The 4-ft-thick shaft ring consists of 18 vertical panels, most of which are reinforced with steel rebar. Fiberglass reinforcement is being employed at the tunnel eye where the TBM will break through to commence its tunnel drive.
Installing driven piles on an batter, gives them a distinct advantage with respect to their ability to carry lateral loads. Battered piles carry lateral loads primarily in axial compression and/or tension while vertical piles carry lateral loads in shear and bending. This was the case at The Diplomat Tower 100 (28 Story apartment building) in Hallandale Beach, FL which tasked us with installing a mix of vertical and battered Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) Piles.
Our scope consisted of a Design-Build shoring system for the North Baggage Handling (NBHS) and Far East Tunnel (FET) Baggage Handling.
Due to the site restrictions, we used Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to coordinate vertical drilled soldier piles and horizontal drilled tiebacks within the tightly congested area where several utilities (including communication lines and hydronic piping) crossed our work site.
For the new 26 story high-rise Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City Hotel located adjacent to the Salt Palace Convention Center, we are constructing over 400 Augercast Piles that reach depths up to 140 ft. In addition we’re installing 12 Augercast Piles for tower cranes, and 2 sacrificial Augercast test piles.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge is a new border crossing spanning the Detroit River, connecting Detroit with Windsor in Canada. With a clear span of over half a mile. the bridge will be the longest cable-spanned bridge in North America. Two 722 ft towers are being constructed on land on each side of the Detroit River. The towers are founded on drilled shafts that extend through various geological subsurface conditions and into the limestone bedrock. this meant we had to contend with a nearly 20 ft artesian pressure head, hard rock drilling, along with the winter weather in Detroit.
200 Park is a new 19-story high-rise with underground and integrated parking in the heart of downtown San Jose, CA.
Our team is working on building a shoring and cut-off wall using the CSM (cutter soil mixing) technique. This is a challenging project with a unique location, Requiring as many as two Bauer BG42’s on site at the same time.
We were recently featured on the cover of Foundation Drilling Magazine and North American Tunneling Journal for two great projects, the Oceanwide Project in San Francisco and the Second Narrows Project in Vancouver. The full version of these articles are…
On this #TunnelingTuesday we travel north to the Second Narrows Tunnel Vancouver. This Slurry Wall is installed 275 ft deep and the tunnel access shaft excavation is at 225 ft. A big shout-out to everyone who was involved in making this project…
BNSF Railway - Santa Ana, CA The project is designed to improve the scour protection of the BNSF Railway Bridge foundations during large discharges of the Prado Dam, which is 1 mile upstream from the project site. The existing railroad…
