Complex Foundation

At 706 Mission in San Francisco, Malcolm is nearing completion on a foundation for a new Millennium Partners development that will include a 47-story mixed-use tower with 146 residential units and a 4-story Mexican Museum. All of this on a site that had partially-constructed existing basement and foundation elements from a previously abandoned project, and a neighboring historic building that requires special attention.

The 510-foot structure required a drilled shaft foundation consisting of 33 drilled shafts, with diameters of 6 feet, reaching depths of 290 feet, and anchored in up to 35 feet of bedrock. This foundation needed 25 feet of extra depth beyond the neighboring Aronson Building, requiring installation of 40 micropiles around the existing footings. The Aronson Building will ultimately be fully integrated with the 706 Mission tower, hosting space for the Mexican Museum on floors two through four and residential or office space on floors five through ten.

Malcolm’s work on the foundation and shoring support at 706 Mission will continue through Spring 2018, with final completion of the project expected in 2019.
