Malcolm Drilling performed shoring on this challenging project site which included demolition debris from the old Liberty Theatre, aging multi-story structures to the north and south of the site, both of which required underpinning and an alley to the west that contained multiple utilities, some of which were located 16 feet below the road elevation.
Malcolm was able to deliver a carefully planned shoring system that included 30 underpinning piles 65 feet in length to hold up the existing buildings- all of which were drilled and installed using a water head to maintain hold stability. Underpinning was also used in the alley to support various vaults which were flush with the shoring limits. In addition, strong backs were installed beyond the alley to help reduce the huge cantilever loads. In all, Malcolm’s design build system performed as expected with little movement of the buildings or city right of way.
