Block 185

Cut-off Wall Solution for Block 185

Block 185 is a 37-floor building with six basement floors below the ground surface, situated beneath the groundwater. The project is within 300 feet from the Colorado River, necessitating a support of excavation that acts as a cut-off wall. Malcolm provided design-build support for the basement using the structural slurry diaphragm wall technique. The slurry diaphragm walls serve multiple functions, acting as the basement walls, support of excavation, allowing excavation to extend 65 feet below grade and approximately 40 feet below the groundwater level. They also act as a cut-off wall, permitting mass excavation without extensive dewatering efforts.

The slurry diaphragm wall was completed ahead of schedule, maintaining the highest quality standards.
