Foundation Solutions for Chase Center: A Combination of Drilled Shafts and CFA MEGA Piles

For this high-profile sports stadium and event venue, Malcolm Drilling proposed a combination of drilled shafts and CFA MEGA piles to accommodate the variable subsoil conditions and design requirements. Drilled shafts, socketed deep into Franciscan bedrock, were used wherever high axial and lateral loads needed to be transferred into the ground. CFA MEGA piles were used whenever the overburden provided sufficient load-bearing capacity for lower-loaded structures. The finished foundation includes over 1,000 CFA MEGA piles and 300 drilled shafts, with the deepest element reaching 170 feet. A fleet of up to 5 drilling units with multiple service cranes was used to deliver the necessary performance to install all elements in a record-breaking period of fewer than 3 months. The arena is the current home of the NBA Golden State Warriors team.
