The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project includes expanding Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Malcolm was contracted by Preston/Top Grade to construct temporary shoring and drilled shaft foundations for the Make-Ready Utility Tunnel. Malcolm was contracted by DPR to install the shoring and pile foundation system for the Hospital Expansion. Approximately 2,400 sf of shoring was installed around the perimeter of the site. The shoring consisted of soldier piles, shotcrete lagging and tiebacks. About 30% of the shoring was under OSHPD jurisdiction. The building foundation system consisted of 2,280 24 in diameter Continuous flight auger piles (CFA piles) with an average depth of 65 ft. Fourteen test piles were installed and subjected to a combination of static loads test up to 1,200kips, High Strain Dynamic Testing (HSDT) and Low Strain Testing (PIT).
