BNSF Bridge Replacement: Precision Drilled Shaft Installation Over the Sabine River

This project involved replacing the existing Bridge 196.8 with a new 641-foot single-track railroad bridge crossing the Sabine River. The design required 17 main structural support piers, each consisting of two 6-foot-diameter drilled shafts extending to a depth of 100 feet.

Due to the proximity to the existing bridge structure, which was susceptible to vibration damage, the shafts were designed with permanent casing. Malcolm utilized one of their large Bauer drilling rigs in combination with one of their oscillators to install and excavate each shaft from either land or a temporary trestle.
