Using Dynamic Compaction on soft soils.
During a new housing development project in Everett, Washington, Malcolm Drilling conducted dynamic compaction on a detention pond set in soft soils. The compaction covered the full footprint of the detention pond and consisted of 297 drop points. At each drop point, a 25-ton weight was dropped from a height of 40-feet four times to compact the soil. The weight was hoisted and dropped using Malcolm’s Liebherr 8130 duty cycle crane, equipped with specialized dynamic compaction software to enable smooth and safe drops of the weight. Following the weight drops, the general contractor graded and backfilled the craters to prepare for the installation of the detention ponds.
