Vancouver Pier 3 Project: Steel Casing Installation

At the Pier 3 project of the I-5/SR502 Interchange in Vancouver, Washington, Malcolm Drilling installed 9-foot-diameter permanent steel casing at six (6) shaft locations with a Leffer 3-meter oscillator. Four pier locations were installed from existing grade, and two were installed from a sheet-pile supported workbench and finger piers constructed over the edge of the workbench. Permanent steel casing segments were welded together vertically over the shaft location, with the deepest casing installed at a depth of 176 feet. A Liebherr 883 dig crane excavated the shafts utilizing a 3-meter spherical grab, dumping shaft spoils into waiting dump trucks. A Liebherr 873 was used as the support crane for placing and supporting the reinforcing cage and other associated operations.
