Installing Deep wells for New Clarifiers.

The Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) Plant 2 is in Huntington Beach, California and its southern property limit is about 1,600 feet from the Pacific Ocean. The project consists of constructing four new clarifiers and several smaller structures that are interconnected by pipelines. Generally, the soils consist of fill overlying alluvial deposits around the site. The proposed excavations for the clarifier will encounter groundwater at about 3 feet elevation. Malcolm installed fifty-two, 45-feet deep wells for the clarifiers.  Based on the relatively clean and free draining nature of the granular soils underlying the fine-grained soil zone and the amount of aquifer underlying the excavation subgrades, deep wells equipped with submersible pumps was the most appropriate groundwater control approach.
