Federal Reserve Board Eccles Building Modernization

The Federal Reserve Board’s Eccles Building was modernized to consolidate most staff into one campus; reduce off-site leases; and provide a modern, efficient workspace for employees to conduct their work on behalf of the American people. Malcolm was contracted to install the support of excavation system consisting of 2,250 linear feet of Diaphragm Wall (D-Wall) and a 200 feet long section of Secant Piles. Both Walls extended up to 65 feet below grade and embedded into bedrock.

Malcolm also designed and installed jet grouting as underpinning beneath an active steam tunnel utility vent. The jet grouting was installed to support the utility during construction of the adjacent D-Wall and subsequent excavation for the new building foundation. In addition, we had to remove 116 abandoned Raymond piles from earlier foundation work. To minimize the impact on the existing nearby structures, our temporary cased drilling method was used.
