Vista Canyon Bridge and Road Improvement Project
Malcolm Drilling was selected by Powell Constructors and the City of Santa Clarita to install the deep foundation for this critical infrastructure project. The work involved installing 24 shafts, each 8-foot in diameter and extending 95 feet below grade. Given the project’s location within the Santa Clara River, all work was strategically scheduled during the dry season to minimize environmental impact. Approval from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) was required for the use of the polymer support fluid, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. To provide dry access for the construction of the column pin connections, each shaft was installed within a Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP). To verify structural integrity, each shaft underwent Gamma-Gamma Logging (GGL) testing as required by Caltrans Standard Specification.
