Recharge Wells

What are Recharge Wells?

In construction, groundwater level recharge wells are strategically employed to mitigate the adverse effects of dewatering activities, which are often necessary during deep excavation and foundation work. Dewatering involves the removal of groundwater to create a dry environment for the construction of deep basements or pile caps.

This process can also lower the groundwater level outside the excavation, which is unwanted or may even result in settlement-induced deformations of adjacent structures. Groundwater recharge wells help counteract these negative impacts by injecting water back into the ground outside the excavation, facilitating the replenishment of the natural aquifer.
